Briefly Noted: Art Group Hosts Musician, Painter Nancy Deckant

Award-winning watercolorist Nancy Deckant gives a discussion and demonstration at 7:30 p.m. Monday to McKeesport Art Group. The event is free and open to the public.

Deckant is also a musician whose first CD of original country and pop songs, Life Jacket, was released in June.

A juror at the Three Rivers Arts Festival for years, Deckant is also a member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society and the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, and her work hangs in many corporate headquarters and galleries in Pittsburgh. She was recently nominated as the "Emerging Artist of the Year," says Jan Catalogna, president of the Art Group.

'Cuckoo's Nest' Wraps MLT Run: McKeesport Little Theater wraps up its production of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" with shows this weekend at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The 1963 play by Dale Wasserman, adapted from Ken Kesey's 1962 novel, later served as the basis for an Academy Award-winning film starring Jack Nicholson. It is directed by Lora Oxenreiter, managing director of the Pittsburgh New Works Festival.

Holiday Open House at Heritage Center: McKeesport Heritage Center's Holiday Open House will be held Dec. 1 to 5 during the city's annual Festival of Trees, a spokeswoman says.

The museum will be open to the public from 12 noon to 8 p.m. each day and decorated for the season with five Christmas trees on display. Popcorn and hot chocolate will be available. The museum's gift shop also will be open with a selection of McKeesport-themed merchandise available, including books, T-shirts and crafts, the center spokeswoman says.

The center will be raffling off an adult gift basket and items for children.

From 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3, local authors John Barna and Michelle Wardle-Eggers will sign copies of their latest book, McKeesport (Postcard History Series). Barna, a historian and photographer, is a member of the center's board of directors and a contributor to Tube City Almanac, while Wardle-Eggers is a historian and writer and the center's executive director.
