Briefly Noted: Medication Collection Slated

Category: Announcements || By Submitted Report

Pennsylvania-American Water Company and Pennsylvania Resources Council will collect expired or unused prescription and over-the-counter medications on Sept. 29 in Munhall.

The collection will be held at the Munhall Municipal Building, 1900 West St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The effort is designed to keep unwanted medications out of the hands of children, and from contaminating drinking water.

State Rep. Bill Kortz, who announced the drop-off program, says the Pennsylvania General Assembly is considering legislation to create a standard statewide drug drop-off program.

The Sept. 29 collection, done in cooperation with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, will accept unwanted and expired medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, in tablet, liquid, ointment, inhaler, powder or patch forms.

Medications should be in their original containers. There is no need to remove personal information from the bottles.

The event is free and open to the public and personal medical information will not be revealed to anyone.

For more information, contact Michael Stepaniak at Pennsylvania Resources Council at (412) 488-7452 or email michaels@ccicenter.org.
