Briefly Noted: Bike Shop Returns to City

Category: Announcements || By Submitted Report

A local bicycle shop has moved back into the city, at a location adjacent to the McKeesport-Versailles "LooP."

Zak's Speed Shop has relocated to the former James Ryan Flowers building on Walnut Street in Christy Park. The shop opened in 2009 in a former house near the intersection of Walnut Street and Long Run Road, but later moved to the former Eddie's TV in Versailles.

The return to Christy Park was announced in late October via the store's Facebook page.

"Our biggest complaint at our (former) store has always been the inconvenient parking situation," a store spokesman said. "So, Zak's is going to give our customers exactly what they want and deserve: a convenient, paved parking lot, plenty of parking spaces, with easier access in and out of traffic!"

The new location at 3014 Walnut St. was most recently used by Hope Alive Ministries. Hope Alive, in turn, has relocated to the former Transfiguration of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church on Sixth Avenue, Downtown.

Besides having more convenient parking, the 3014 Walnut location is less than a block from the city-maintained hiking-biking trail and more convenient to cyclists, a spokesman said.

Although the new store is open, construction is continuing and customers should call (412) 751-5278 before stopping.

Zak's is an authorized dealer for Marin, Surly, Salsa, KHE, Stolen, Fly, Fiction, Origin8 and Sun bicycles, and provides repair services as well as sales.
