School District Slates December Activities

McKeesport Area School District announced the following special events in December:

Kindergarteners, Parents Learn About Rudolph: The second-annual parent involvement cross-curricular learning celebration will take place at 12:30 p.m. Monday in the Centennial Elementary School gymnasium.

Centennial's kindergarten students invite parents to participate in themed learning activities celebrating the "birthday" of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Cross-curricular activities are designed to help students meet the new National Common Core Standards, which involve the students digging deeper into concepts by doing hands-on activities.

Some of the activities planned for this celebration include learning stations such as sequencing a story to aid comprehension and using two-dimensional shapes to construct a reindeer.

Mrs. Claus Visits: With help from The Consortium for Public Education, Centennial and White Oak Elementary Schools in will host a holiday visit from Mrs. Claus and her elf helper, Jingle, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at White Oak Elementary School and from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Centennial Elementary School.

Holiday Concerts: The McKeesport Area High School holiday concert will take place at the high school auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. Dec. 12. The Founder's Hall holiday concert will take place at the McKeesport Area High School auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. Dec. 19.

Blankets for Patients: White Oak Elementary School students will be delivering handmade blankets made throughout the month to patients at the Palms at O'Neil personal care residence. This visit will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Dec. 14.

Metric Field Day: Metric Field Day will be held at Francis McClure Intermediate School beginning at 9 a.m. Dec. 19. This is an event during which students practice their mathematics while playing various educational games.

Salon Services for Kane Patients:
Cosmetology students from McKeesport Area Technology Center are visiting the city's Kane Regional Hospital to provide salon services to patients on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
