Young men should pre-register for Project Prom for Men. Young ladies are not required to pre-register.
Entrance to the shop is on a first-come-first-served basis. Students should be prepared to show valid student ID and proof of eligibility, and there is no guarantee that a prom outfit will be available.
Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, Project Prom was created by the Office of Community Relations of Allegheny County's Department of Human Services. It has provided eligible high school students the opportunity to choose free formal attire from a selection of thousands of donated items. Originally housed at the Parental Stress Center in East Liberty, the Project Prom Shop has been at Century III since June 2007.
The Project Prom Shop is equipped with dressing rooms and is staffed with volunteers serving as personal stylists for the Gown Giveaway held several days each year in early spring.
When the gown giveaway is completed, formalwear is made available for public sale to raise funds to purchase tuxedo rental gift certificates and to purchase gowns in sizes 0-4 and 14-28.
