The Elizabeth Forward Branch of the Carnegie Library of McKeesport will close May 11.
Library Executive Director Jo Ellen Kenney said the facility, located in Elizabeth Twp.'s Central Elementary School, is closing due to lack of space in the building.
The branch opened in 1998 and has circulated more than 350,000 items since then, she said.
Elizabeth Forward School District informed the library several years ago that the space would be needed for school purposes, Kenney said.

Elizabeth Twp. asked the library and the school district to delay the closing until a new space could be identified, but none has been offered, she said.
"Without a location from which to operate, the library has no recourse but to close the branch," said Kenney, who thanked the district and the township for their past financial support.
Carnegie Library of McKeesport also operates branch locations in White Oak and Duquesne.
Library patrons from the Elizabeth Forward area can continue to use their cards at any Allegheny County library and download materials from the Carnegie Library of McKeesport website, Kenney said.
"If and when the township commissioners find a suitable location and financial assistance, the library will reopen the branch," Kenney said. "In the meantime, the library will continue to look for alternative ways to provide library service to Elizabeth Forward residents."
