This Year? Video, Live from International Village

Category: Shameless Horn-Tooting || By

When David Sarnoff, chairman of Radio Corporation of America, announced in April 1939 that NBC would conduct regular television broadcasts from the 1939 New York World's Fair, he said, "Today we add sight to sound."

Never mind the fact that plenty of other inventors and companies were conducting TV experiments long before RCA. That's another story for another time.

Since 2009, we have provided live, free, continuous audio coverage of McKeesport's International Village.

This year, we intend to add streaming video as well, so that people can see the dancers and the costumes. It's time for us to "up our game."

. . .

Here's the problem ... this is going to be significantly more expensive than doing audio, and audio was already expensive. The corporation has already dropped more than $300 on second-hand video equipment (mostly at places like Dayton Hamvention), and we are going to have to patch a lot of things together.

(I'm also not convinced we're going to be able to get a good Internet signal from Renzie, but we're going to try.)

Now, here's where you can help. If you have a business or organization that would like to advertise during our broadcast --- both video and audio --- or you simply want to make a donation, you can donate using PayPal or send a check or money order to Tube City Community Media Inc., P.O. Box 94, McKeesport, PA 15134.

. . .

For the last four years, I've asked businesses and organizations to donate either $100 or $50 --- $100 for a 60-second announcement every hour, and $50 for a 30-second commercial every hour.

This year, because we're adding video (and we will have to create some simple video announcements) I'd like to increase that to either $200 or $100. But honestly, we will take whatever we can get, and if your business can't afford that, I'll work with you.

We're not looking to make a profit, we're just looking to get this done. And obviously, from individual people, any donation --- $5, $10, $50 --- would help us.

. . .

We are going to try to raise $1,000. Any excess over that $1,000 will go to fund the operations of this website for the coming year.

If you would like to include your message during our video and audio broadcast from International Village this year, please use the "PitchIn" button to donate.

If that doesn't work, contact me at tubecitytiger@gmail.com, or call (412) 614-9659, and we will find some other way to make this happen.

We have about two months to see if this will work. I think we can make it, folks. Can you help?

. . .

P.S.: We could also use helpers to go out and collect video interviews. If that's something you'd like to do during one of the days of International Village --- Aug. 13, 14 and 15 --- please get in touch.
