Pa. House Scholarship Deadline is March 1

Category: Announcements || By Submitted Report

The deadline for local high school seniors to apply for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives scholarship is March 1, state Rep. Bill Kortz has announced.

"The Pennsylvania House of Representatives provides two scholarships every year for Pennsylvania high school seniors," Kortz, a Democrat from Dravosburg, said this week. "No tax dollars are used for these scholarships --- they are funded entirely through private and corporate donations."

The scholarship provides assistance for tuition, fees and books only, Kortz said. To be eligible, applicants must be legal residents of Pennsylvania who are planning to attend a Pennsylvania college, university, or career school as a full-time student. They must be carrying a minimum 3.0 GPA, and be able to demonstrate that they volunteer for community service and extracurricular activities.

They should also have financial need, Kortz said. Children of legislators or legislative staff members are not eligible to apply.

The scholarship is administered by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities. For complete details, visit the website or call Kortz's office at (412) 466-1940.
