Category: Announcements || By Submitted Report

Penn State Greater Allegheny students Ashia Mack and Jaleel Dyson are representing the McKeesport campus as dancers at THON 2014, the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

THON is a yearlong effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer. Since 1977, THON has raised more than $101 million for the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital, which supports childhood cancer research.

THON 2014 will take place from Feb. 21 to 23 at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus, where dancers will attempt to stay on their feet for 46 hours.

At Greater Allegheny, THON efforts are led by THON Chair Andrew Pricener and Co-chair Jaleel Dyson. The Greater Allegheny community has held a number of fundraising events leading up to THON weekend, including a THON blood drive, a cooking demonstration and a billiards tournament.

Students at the McKeesport campus have so far raised more than $9,000 towards the fight against cancer, a spokeswoan said. Donations will be accepted until Feb. 21. Inspirational notes or letters can also be contributed.
