Reader's Viewpoint: 'Pick Your Poison'

Reader Donn Nemchick writes:

I contend that if Saints & Sinners were a slot/poker machine parlor the opposition would be much much less.

Most likely "customers" would be lined up from Christy Park to Renzie Park to feed those machines hoping for a winning hand. Politicians and civic leaders would trip all over themselves to attend the ribbon cutting and grand opening.

So "pick your poison" (rigged gambling or sleaze) for what type entertainment should open in McKeesport.

A gentleman's club is not for everyone, and every business should have the necessary permits and licenses in place however no government official should stand in the way of a legal, albeit racy, business.

A slippery slope can be created when a mayor or any other elected official says who can conduct commerce.

I contend the free market should determine if a legal business opens ... it is easy to say that if no one patronizes "Saints & Sinners," then it will not stay open for long.

It will be interesting to see how this test of the First Amendment and other laws plays out, I just hope that the citizens and elected officials of McKeesport don't make fools of themselves in the media.
