A big "thank you" to all of the folks who have come through with support for our International Village broadcast!

Thanks to Westmoreland Pools' generosity, we will be raffling off two $50 gift cards during the broadcast. No purchase necessary --- just stop by the Tube City Online booth. Your donations will pay for this broadcast; any money left over supports operation of the website and helps pay our contributors. If you're still interested in helping, there's plenty of time. I don't like to ask for money, so I don't do it very often, but believe me, your contributions are very appreciated.

One caveat: The broadcast is run by Tube City Community Media Inc. Some people have asked if their contributions are directly helping International Village. Unfortunately, no, and I don't want to take anyone's money under false pretenses. If you want to support International Village, contact the committee chair, Councilman Dan Carr, at dcarr1825@aol.com, or call the mayor's office at (412) 675-5020.

For the past three years, Tube City Online has provided the only live coverage of International Village. (Although there are two radio stations licensed to McKeesport, neither broadcasts from the Village any more.)

No one takes a salary from this event, and the executive director (me) winds up subsidizing any over-runs from my own pocket. (If anyone wants to see the bills from last year, email me privately. It costs us between $700 and $1,000 to pull off this event.)

We plan to provide the same service again this year ... but we can't lose money on it.

So ... we're once again appealing to you for help. If you can donate a few dollars, we will very gladly and graciously accept your money. Use ChipIn to donate securely using PayPal or a credit card.

In addition, we'd like to find a few sponsors to underwrite the broadcast. This is a great, low-cost opportunity to promote your church festival, volunteer fire department, labor union or other worthy cause.

• A $50 donation will entitle you to one 15-second announcement per hour throughout the broadcast, along with links to your group or business at Tube City Almanac for 30 days.


• A $100 donation will entitle you to one 30-second announcement per hour, along with banner ads at Tube City Almanac for 30 days.


• Besides airing your commercials during the broadcast, we will display the name of your business or organization in our booth throughout the event.
