A Trial Is Just Around The Coroner

Category: default || By jt3y

Sweet holy hopping Quincys:

A federal grand jury this morning handed up an 84-count indictment against Allegheny County Medical Examiner Dr. Cyril H. Wecht, alleging he used his office as coroner to conduct private pathology business and used public employees to perform some of that work.

The indictment also accuses Dr. Wecht of falsely billing several private clients for such items as transportation to and from the Pittsburgh airport when he was, in fact, driven there by county employees.

The indictment accuses him of mail and wire fraud; theft of honest services; and theft from an organization that receives federal funds. (Post-Gazette)

More information to come, no doubt. I wonder if Jim Ecker's available for the defense?

Ecker may be available because he hasn’t been paid by Jeff Habay for services in the state rep’s next trial. But if Dick Thornburgh couldn’t talk Mary Beth Buchanan into dropping the charges, what makes Ecker any more vital to the fellow who apparently now is going the same direction as the fellow on which Quincy was loosely based, Thomas Noguchi?

‘Twas a joke, albeit a weak one. I might also have said “Pat Thomassey.” They seem to get all of the high-profile cases … including not a few which Wecht has been on the other side of.
