We are looking for a talk-show host or hostess to conduct a weekly, half-hour show that would be offered as a podcast, and broadcast over WEDO (810).
This show would consist of interviews with newsmakers and elected officials in the McKeesport, East Allegheny, South Allegheny and Norwin areas. The host or hostess should be prepared to keep his or her opinions neutral. For this project, we are looking for a friendly, laid-back, informational show, not a controversial one.
Previous radio experience --- such as college radio experience --- would be helpful but is not necessary. More than one person (co-hosts) can be involved. We will handle the technical aspects and help connect the host or hosts with the newsmakers.
The applicant should have a clear speaking voice and be able to hear via headphones or telephone, with or without assistance. Access to reliable transportation would be helpful, because some travel may be required.
The applicant should be dependable and trustworthy. References will be requested.
This is a good chance to build podcasting or digital media experience and help the community. There is no salary at this time, but we will reimburse expenses. There is no minimum age requirement, though minors should have permission from a parent or guardian.
If you are interested, please email me at tubecitytiger@gmail.com.

Tube City Community Media Inc. has announced that it will not seek a low-power FM radio station license in McKeesport.
Instead, the non-profit organization that operates the Tube City Online website will look for ways to work with McKeesport-licensed WEDO (810 AM) radio on bringing community public-affairs coverage to the region.
The Federal Communications Commission is currently accepting applications for low-power FM radio stations. These stations must be operated by non-profit community groups and may not carry commercial announcements such as advertising.
The decision follows a board meeting in August at which six of Tube City's eight board members expressed ambivalence about creating a new non-profit, non-commercial radio station.
Following the meeting, an article in Daily News asked community groups or residents if they were interested in low-power FM radio, also known as LPFM. Only one person contacted Tube City; they were not from the McKeesport area.

Tube City Community Media Inc. is working with WEDO (810) radio to bring community calendar announcements and public-service announcements to the radio station's airwaves.
The partnership follows this summer's decision by WEDO to carry portions of Tube City's coverage of the 2013 International Village festival.
Tube City volunteers will be providing fully-produced 30 and 60-second audio announcements for WEDO to use. In addition, Tube City will soon be providing WEDO listeners with "McKeesport History Minutes" in cooperation with the non-profit McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center.
Founded in 1947 and independently owned and operated by 810 Inc., WEDO is a sunrise-to-sunset AM station, licensed to McKeesport, whose 810 AM signal serves the Greater Pittsburgh area. Its studios are located in White Oak and its 1,000-watt transmitter is located in North Versailles Twp.
There is no charge for community organizations that want to participate. The Trafford Veterans' Memorial Bridge Dedication Committee and the state Department of Transportation will dedicate a new bridge at 11 a.m. Oct. 26.
"We are planning a memorable event to signify this historic moment for Trafford," said Larry George, head of the bridge dedication committee.
The bridge, which carries Route 130 over Turtle Creek from Allegheny to Westmoreland counties, serves as the gateway into Trafford's business district. Mosites Construction Company was the general contractor on the $11 million project, which began in April 2012 with the demolition of the former bridge.
The former bridge, which was constructed in 1964, had become deficient and as a result was weight restricted. "The new bridge which is being completed more than one month ahead of schedule will be safer and more driver-friendly, featuring a wider and more open intersection on the business district side, as well as Trafford's first permanent traffic signal," said Joseph Szczur, district executive for PennDOT.
