Listen to the Orchestra of the Alleghenies holiday concert featuring the Latshaw Pops Orchestra tomorrow, Dec. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Pittsburgh's WRCT-FM (88.3), or online at www.wrct.org.
The concert was recorded Dec. 8 at McKeesport Area High School.
The concert is being aired through the cooperation of the McKeesport Symphony Society, members of the Pittsburgh Musicians Union and Tube City Online.

The City of McKeesport and the Lions Club will partner with Duquesne Light Company and national nonprofit KaBOOM! to design and build a new playground in the city's Highland Grove neighborhood.
"The children are our future, so it is important to help them grow up in a safe and caring environment, while teaching them values," Mayor Michael Cherepko said.
The playground at the corner of Highland Avenue and Chestnut Street will be constructed on April 25, 2014. More than 200 volunteers from the city, the Lions Club, Duquesne Light and the community, along with organizers from KaBOOM!, will build the new playground in about six hours. Funding will be provided by the power company and the city.

Join the Carnegie Library of McKeesport for its Annual Family Holiday Celebration at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 at McKees Point Palisades, 100 Fifth Ave.
There will be dinner, a craft and a "special guest," a spokeswoman said. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $1 per person, up to $5 for a family. Registration is required.
You must be registered by Saturday, Dec. 14. To register, visit the front desk of our McKeesport library, or the desks at the White Oak or Duquesne branches. Payment is due at time of registration (cash only).

McKeesport's 28th annual Festival of Trees gets underway Thursday in Renziehausen Park, with more than 80 hand-decorated Christmas trees on display at Jacob Woll Pavilion.
Hours are 12 to 9 p.m. through Dec. 9. Live entertainment will include choral groups and dancers, a committee organizer said.
The tree-lighting ceremony begins at 6 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Arboretum Drive and Sycamore Drive (near the senior center). The West Mifflin Area Titan Chorals and Show Choir will perform at 6:15 p.m.

The McKeesport Symphony Society's Orchestra of the Alleghenies annual holiday concert will have a certain swing this year, thanks to the Latshaw Pops.
Tickets are now on sale for the concert, scheduled for 2:30 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 8, at McKeesport Area High School, 1960 Eden Park Blvd.
The Latshaw Pops Orchestra, founded by producer Gary Latshaw, is uniquely designed to perform popular American Standards, Broadway show tunes, favorites songs from Hollywood movies and the best in swing music.
Family tickets are $50 and include two adults and up to four children. Individual tickets are $15 for senior citizens, $18 for adults, and $10 for children. Children under five are admitted free.

The McKeesport Area High School Orchestra and the Steel Valley Concert Choir are among 26 local bands, orchestras and choruses that will bring holiday music to the Allegheny County Courthouse this month.
The 46th annual Holiday Choral Program begins tomorrow, Dec. 3, with a performance by the Quaker Valley High School Concert Choir at 11:30 a.m. All concerts are held on the courthouse's grand staircase, 436 Grant St., downtown Pittsburgh.
Performances will be held each weekday through Dec. 20. The McKeesport Area High School Orchestra will perform at 12:20 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, and the Steel Valley Concert Choir will perform at 12:20 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Other Mon-Yough area groups include the Pittsburgh Mifflin Chorus, from Mifflin Elementary in the city's Lincoln Place section, which will perform at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.
All of the concerts are free and open to the public, though concert-goers are asked to donate an unwrapped gift for the county's Holiday Project.
